CHOOSING STORAGE FOR YOUR LITHIUM BATTERIES: THE MOST RELIABLE METHOD – ENCRYPTED STORAGE!

Storing Lithium Batteries Safely: Choosing the Right Cabinet with Care and Consistency! When storing lithium batteries—such as those used in power tools, drones, or e-bikes—you are storing a quantity of energy, expressed in Wh (watt-hours). This value, printed on each battery, is essential: it determines the level of risk and, therefore, the type of safety cabinet to use. Why is this so important? Lithium batteries pose three major hazards: they can catch fire , explode , or release toxic fumes . Proper storage can significantly reduce these risks. Step 1 – Identify the most powerful battery Start by identifying, among all the batteries you wish to store, the one with the highest capacity in Wh. This value is usually indicated directly on the battery label. It is often the physically largest battery. Step 2 – Calculate the total stored power Add up the capacity in Wh of all the batteries that will be stored together in the cabinet. This total gives you the cumulative power of your storage. Step 3 – Assess your storage environment Ask yourself if the location where the cabinet will be placed presents any specific risks: presence of flammable materials, personnel nearby, high ambient temperature. This determines the cabinet’s thermal classification (T1 or T2). Choose your cabinet based on this table: Once you have these three pieces of information, the classification of the cabinet you need is determined as follows: Most powerful battery Total stored power Armoire recommandée ≤ 3 500 Wh ≤ 14 000 Wh P3500T1 ≤ 1 000 Wh ≤ 4 000 Wh P1000T1 ≤ 400 Wh ≤ 1 600 Wh P400T1 How to read this table? Identify the row where both thresholds (individual battery AND total) are met. If your most powerful battery exceeds 400 Wh but remains below 1,000 Wh, for example, and your total does not exceed 4,000 Wh, then the P1000T1 cabinet is suitable for your situation.
