A new era for lithium battery storage!

New technical guidance on lithium battery storage A new technical guidance document, specifically tailored to the risks and challenges of lithium battery storage, has been published at the start of 2026. Ecosafe is pleased to announce the completion of a new range of high-security cabinets designed to meet these new requirements. This new series, which you will discover very soon, is part of an innovative approach designed to ensure ever-greater safety for users and reduce the environmental impact. We understand the risks. Our experience in lithium storage is growing, and we are building the safety solutions of tomorrow, alongside you. So what does this recommendation cover? General: Essential protection The safety of lithium-ion batteries is crucial for protecting operators and the environment. Our cabinets, designed as secure storage units, prevent fires and spontaneous combustion. They control thermal runaway (overheating > 73°C) and limit the risks of fire spreading or fragments being projected. The aim is to ensure optimum safety, even in the event of a critical incident, by confining hazards within the cabinet. Scope of application and limitations The regulations apply to removable and portable lithium-ion batteries (bicycles, tools, drones, etc.) with a mass of 25 kg or less, and a maximum unit power rating of 4,000 W or less. The total energy stored per shelf is limited by the capacity of the cabinet’s electrical installation. Non-fixed devices do not fall within the scope of this technical recommendation. System, Classification and Technical Requirements The cabinet is classified according to its performance in the event of thermal runaway: Technical Construction Requirements Class P : Withstands the maximum energy of the battery. Class T : Measures the surface temperature rise (T1: 150 K, T2: 250 K, T3: >250 K). Example: A P3500 T1 cabinet can withstand a 3,500 Wh battery whilst maintaining a very low external temperature. The cabinet must meet strict criteria: Door management : Alarm system or automatic closure after 1 minute, secure locking. Ventilation and gases : Mandatory air extraction (10 m³/h) to remove flammable gases. Fire protection : No visible flames must emerge from the cabinet in the event of thermal runaway. Safety equipment: Smoke/heat detection, automatic extinguishing, and clear labelling of classes and warnings.
